Schlotzsky's Deli has announced a comprehensive rebranding initiative, officially reinstating "Deli" into its name and rolling out a new restaurant design alongside the fresh tagline, "Life needs Lotz." This strategic move is aimed at modernising the brand's image, clarifying its identity as a deli establishment, and establishing a more sustainable growth trajectory for its franchisees. The decision follows a customer survey that revealed patrons already perceive Schlotzsky's as a deli, prompting the company to align its branding with this existing perception.
New Restaurant Prototypes and Design Features
The rebrand introduces innovative restaurant prototypes equipped with self-order kiosks, dedicated digital pickup areas, and grab-and-go options to enhance convenience. An efficiently arranged kitchen is also part of the redesign, intended to accelerate service and improve overall customer flow. These features are designed to cater to modern dining preferences, emphasising speed and accessibility in a competitive market.
Reduced Footprint and Cost Savings
A key aspect of the rebrand is the reduction in restaurant size, with new layouts topping out at 2,100 square feet compared to older models that spanned 3,600 square feet. This downsizing is projected to slash operating costs by 20 to 25 per cent, significantly boosting franchisee profitability. By optimising space and resources, Schlotzsky's aims to create a more efficient and financially viable model for its network of locations.
Broader Expansion Strategy
This rebranding effort is integrated into the broader expansion strategy of parent company GoTo Foods. Currently, Schlotzsky's operates 291 locations across the United States, with a strong presence in Texas where the chain originated. The modernisation initiative is expected to support future growth, potentially attracting new franchisees and expanding the brand's footprint in existing and new markets.
