Sainsbury's Steak Disappoints: Shopper Vows Never to Buy Again

Vita Molyneux, a London-based travel reporter, has declared she will never buy steak from Sainsbury's again after repeated disappointments. Writing for What's On, she describes her local Sainsbury's Local as convenient but criticises the quality of its steak, which she finds consistently thin, anaemic, and grey.

The Problem with Sainsbury's Steak

Molyneux, who considers herself a skilled steak cook, notes that while M&S and Waitrose steaks cook perfectly, Sainsbury's versions turn out chewy and unappealing. She spent £7.50 per steak on several occasions, only to be met with poor results. The breaking point came when a steak emerged from the pan thin, curled, and barely edible, leading her to discard it uneaten.

Comparison with Competitors

She highlights that M&S steak costs approximately £1 more but offers significantly better quality. Molyneux states, 'I'm perfectly content to make the additional effort for a steak I can depend on.' She plans to walk to her local M&S for steak purchases from now on.

Convenience vs. Quality

While acknowledging the convenience and value of Sainsbury's Local for general shopping, Molyneux concludes that steak is the one item she cannot compromise on. Her experience underscores a common trade-off between proximity and product quality in urban convenience stores.
