Ryan Wintle has completed a move to League One side MK Dons after leaving Cardiff City earlier this summer. The 29-year-old midfielder departed the Bluebirds following the expiry of his contract, ending a five-year spell in south Wales where he made 163 appearances and became a fan favourite.
Key role in promotion
Wintle played a crucial part in Cardiff's promotion back to the Championship last season, earning the club's Player of the Season award for his outstanding performances. He now joins ambitious MK Dons, who are targeting promotion under manager Paul Warne, formerly of Derby County and Rotherham United.
Manager and director praise
Warne said: "Ryan's a great player. He has a real intent to his play and his athleticism allows him to cover the pitch really well. He's a great character, and after speaking to two of his previous managers and a few of his former teammates, you could see his reputation was faultless."
MK Dons sporting director Liam Sweeting added: "Ryan is a significant signing for the football club. He is a player with substantial League One and Championship experience who has consistently performed at a very high level. Most recently, he played a key role in Cardiff City's promotion from League One and was deservedly voted their Player of the Season."
Fan reaction
The announcement sparked an overwhelmingly positive reaction on social media, with many fans calling it one of the standout signings of the League One summer. Cardiff City supporters flooded replies to praise Wintle, describing him as a proven promotion-winning midfielder who boosts MK Dons' chances of challenging at the top end of the table.
