Met Office Confirms UK Heatwave to Cool Down This Saturday
Met Office Says UK Heatwave to End Saturday

The Met Office has confirmed that the current heatwave across the UK will finally break on Saturday, with temperatures set to drop as cooler air from the North Atlantic moves in. The country has been experiencing its third heatwave of the year, with scorching conditions over the weekend that saw temperatures exceed 30C in parts of England and Wales.

Merseyside, in particular, basked in glorious sunshine, prompting many to flock to parks and seaside towns such as Crosby Beach. However, the northwest remains under a yellow heat-health alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), which is in place until 9pm on Wednesday.

Forecast Details

Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick said: "For the time being it looks like the heatwave is set to continue, but depending on where you are, there may be a brief respite in the heat to come." The respite is expected to arrive on Saturday, when "cooler" conditions are forecast.

In its outlook for Thursday to Saturday, the Met Office stated: "Staying dry and settled throughout the rest of the week and into the weekend. Remaining very warm initially but feeling a little cooler by Saturday." The forecaster added: "High pressure is likely to remain close to the UK into this period, and likely centred to the west or northwest of the country. This means plenty more dry weather for most if not all parts, though with the source region of the air being the North Atlantic, somewhat cooler, or at least less hot, conditions are expected, compared to many recent days."

Liverpool Temperature Outlook

For Liverpool, the Met Office predicts: Tuesday 27C, Wednesday 28C, Thursday 28C, Friday 26C, Saturday 22C, and Sunday 21C. The drop on Saturday marks a clear end to the heatwave conditions.

Looking Ahead

Towards the latter part of July, the influence of high pressure may wane somewhat, allowing a greater chance of rain, showers or thunderstorms compared to earlier in the month. Overall, temperatures are expected to remain above average during this period.
