In a spectacular display of culinary craftsmanship, four Scottish bakeries have competed to create the largest-ever Empire biscuit, with a Highlands bakery emerging victorious in this record-breaking challenge.

Giant Treat Marks Launch of Prestigious Awards

The extraordinary baking contest took place at Fife College in Dunfermline, serving as the official launch event for the upcoming Scottish Baker of the Year Awards. Over two intense hours, teams from four distinguished bakeries pushed their skills to the absolute limit, constructing gigantic versions of the classic Scottish treat.

Record Dimensions and Judging Excellence

The winning creation by Harry Gow Bakery measured an impressive 78 inches in width, setting what organisers believe to be an unofficial world record for the largest Empire biscuit ever made. The competition was judged by none other than Peter Sawkins, the celebrated winner of The Great British Bake Off in 2020.

Sawkins remarked on the exceptional atmosphere throughout the event, stating: "There was such a great atmosphere throughout the day, competitive, yes, but also incredibly supportive. Everyone involved should be proud of what they achieved. It's events like this that remind you how strong and connected the Scottish baking community really is."

Victorious Bakery Celebrates Hard-Fought Win

Harry Gow Bakery, based in Inverness with multiple branches throughout the Highlands, claimed victory by a matter of inches in this closely contested challenge. Managing director David Gow expressed his delight at the outcome, saying: "Being part of the Empire biscuit challenge has been an absolute blast. The scale, the detail, the friendly rivalry, it was all amazing. Huge congratulations to everyone who took part, and we're delighted to bring the win home for the icons today."
