Dale Harvey, a man on a mission to visit every pub in the UK, reached a milestone of 10,000 pubs with a visit to Teuchters Bar & Bunker in Edinburgh. He began his Great British Pub Crawl in March 2022 and celebrated the achievement on Monday, July 13, 2026, with a pint of Pilot beer.
Determined Despite Fatigue
Harvey, a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) national executive, said he is “100 per cent determined” to finish the challenge despite feeling “tired” after spending thousands on alcohol. He revealed that his motivation comes from proving his wife wrong, as she told him he would never complete the crawl.
“When I started four years and three months ago I never expected to reach 10,000 pubs,” Harvey said, describing the milestone as “surreal.” He praised Teuchters as “amazing,” adding: “I love everything about Scotland when it comes to their pubs, their culture, their people, their towns. Every time I come I’m more and more impressed with the place.”
From Hobby to Nationwide Challenge
The pub crawl began as a hobby to visit every pub in Nottinghamshire before evolving into a nationwide challenge. Harvey’s journeys across England, Scotland, and Wales have generated millions of views on social media, where he celebrates the pubs he visits.
Despite the fatigue, Harvey plans to continue. “I’m going away on holiday to Fuerteventura for a little sit in the sun and relax. But as soon as I get back, I’ll be straight back out on the road and doing it again,” he said.
Highlighting Pressures on Pubs
Harvey has also used his challenge to publicize the pressures faced by licensed businesses, noting that “ever-rising costs” are pushing many to the brink. He raised his pint and declared: “Here’s to the next 10,000. I’m certainly not going to stop. I’m not going to slow down. I’m going to carry on – while there are issues to highlight, I’ll be out there doing this.”
According to his Google research, there are approximately 35,000 pubs across the UK, though some premises may close during his journey. Harvey thanked staff and owner Peter Knight at Teuchters for the memorable visit.
