Sophie Harris tested four dishwasher tablet brands over several months: M&S, Aldi, Sainsbury's, and Finish. The M&S tablets delivered the best cleaning results, consistently leaving dishes spotless and glasses crystal clear without watermarks. They cost £3.50 for 30 tablets (purchased from Ocado) and had a pleasant lemon-and-ginger fragrance.
Aldi and Sainsbury's Performance
Aldi's all-in-one lemon tablets at £2.99 for 40 handled everyday dishes well but struggled with stubborn stains and occasionally left residue. Sainsbury's all-in-one hard tablets at £2.75 for 30 performed similarly, managing lightly soiled dishes but not baked-on food or large loads effectively.
Finish Quantum All In One
Finish Quantum All In One Lemon tablets, costing nearly £13 for 64, produced outstanding cleaning results, handling all residues with ease. However, their high price was a drawback, according to Harris.
Harris concluded that branded products are not necessarily superior; supermarket own-label products can match or exceed them. She noted that this experiment reinforced her findings from comparisons of ketchups, jams, and other essentials.
