Marks & Spencer has unveiled its 2025 Christmas food menu, but one item has drawn criticism for its hefty price tag. The Collection Fillet of British Beef Wellington, created by chef Tom Kerridge, costs £195, leading some shoppers to label it 'absolute madness'.
The retailer launched its 120-page Christmas Food Magazine in stores this week, alongside opening its Christmas Food to Order slots. The menu features festive classics like turkey, pigs in blankets, and Christmas pudding, but the premium Wellington has stolen the spotlight.
On the Facebook group Newfoodsuk, shopper Lucy Mills commented: '£200 for a beef wellington is absolute madness though.' Another, Janette Parker, added: 'I'd want Tom Kerridge in my kitchen personally preparing a Beef Wellington for £195!'
An M&S spokesperson defended the product, stating: 'Our M&S Collection with Tom Kerridge Beef Wellington is individually hand made, serving 6 people and weighs over 2kg. It’s the absolute best quality Wellington we’ve ever created.' The Wellington features hand-butchered British beef fillet matured for up to 17 days, portobello mushroom duxelles, chicken breast mousse, black truffle, and Tom’s signature all-butter hot water crust pastry, served with a rich beef and red wine gravy.
Despite the backlash, some shoppers expressed excitement. Jacqui Lowry wrote: 'Wow ... looks amazing this year,' while Lianne Cormack said: 'Can’t wait for all the Christmas magazines.' The Christmas Food Magazines are available in stores now, with online ordering slots now open.
