As a fragrance collector, I've definitely tried my fair share of perfumes. However, recently while shopping around the M&S beauty hall, I stumbled across a collection I'd never seen before - and it reminded me of a designer version which costs around £200 more.
The Discovery
The particular perfume that caught my eye was the Vetiver Eau De Toilette 100ml, priced at £20. Displayed in a beautiful potion-like bottle, the perfume is made by Italian company Monotheme who produce single-note fragrances at high-street friendly prices.
The scent reminded me a lot of Creed's Original Vetiver which for a 50ml bottle will set you back £220. The unisex best-seller is praised for its earthy, woody, and fresh notes and I've never smelled anything as close to it as this affordable Marks & Spencer find.
Scent Profile Comparison
The Vetiver Eau De Toilette opens with herby notes of artemisia and coriander, which are balanced by fresh and bright citrus tones of lemon and bergamot. The rich vetiver bourbon comes in at the heart, with a hint of orange blossom, and a musky base of sandalwood and oak moss.
The Creed favourite follows a similar fragrance journey, blending green and citrus top notes, with a vetiver and floral heart that develops into a rich wood and musk base.
Key Differences
Now, the most obvious difference is the £20 option is only an eau de toilette. This makes the scent less powerful and also means it will wear off faster than an eau de parfum. However, I don't mind that coming into the summer months when I tend to gravitate towards something more light and fresh. An eau de toilette is also a great option for going to the beach or the gym, and is less overwhelming if you're sat in the office.
It's worth keeping in mind, these scents are by no means identical, but I believe it's an excellent alternative for those who want that luxury feel without the gargantuan price tag.
Other Bargains
Bargain hunters can also find a selection of perfumes reduced to half price at Boots. The retailer keeps a rotation of designer options on offer with savings on huge names like Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, Rabanne, and more.
Right now, the Rabanne Olympea Eau De Parfum 80ml reduced to £53.50 from £107 and the Gucci Bamboo for Her Eau de parfum reduced to £49.50 from £90 are among the most wanted.
Alternatively, lesser-known online retailer allbeauty stocks an extensive collection of designer favourites at majorly discounted prices. The website sells extra stock as well as discounted lines, which combined with the lack of overheads from having physical stores, allows for such competitive prices.
Among the current deals, is a whopping 74% saving on the Calvin Klein CK IN2U Him Eau de Toilette 150ml which has been slashed to £17.55 from its usual price of £68.
