Morrisons Frosties Alternative Beats Kellogg's in Blind Taste Test
Morrisons Frosties Alternative Beats Kellogg's in Blind Taste Test

In a blind taste test, Morrisons' own-brand frosted flakes outshone the original Kellogg's Frosties, winning over tasters with a sweeter and crunchier bite at half the price. The comparison, carried out by a shopper with help from her parents, pitted six varieties against each other, including the branded cereal.

The Setup and the Contenders

Six identical-looking bowls of frosted flakes were prepared for a blind tasting. The aim was to see if any supermarket version could match the real thing, which costs £3.50 for a 470g box at Tesco. The own-brand options came from Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, and Morrisons, with prices ranging from 95p to £1.75 for boxes weighing between 500g and 750g.

The tasters were asked to identify the authentic Frosties and pick their favourite overall. While some alternatives were disappointing, one rivaled and even surpassed the original, according to the results.

The Rankings: From Worst to Best

At the bottom was Tesco's frosted flakes at 95p for 500g, which were described as bland with an odd aftertaste. Asda's version at £1.15 for 500g was slightly better, enjoyable dry but quickly becoming soggy in milk. Aldi's 750g box at £1.45 took fourth place, with a golden colour but a somewhat muted flavour.

Lidl's 500g box at £1.15 came third, offering a sweeter taste and better crunch retention. The authentic Kellogg's Frosties placed second, scoring 4/5, with tasters noting they were less sweet than remembered but still crispy. The clear winner was Morrisons' frosted flakes at £1.75 for 500g, scoring 5/5, with both parents convinced it was the real thing.

The Verdict

Morrisons' frosted flakes were the sweetest and crunchiest of all, with no unpleasant aftertaste, making them a convincing and more affordable alternative to the branded cereal.
