Lloyds Bank is set to close 23 branches throughout October, while B&Q has confirmed the closure of its Wigston store in Leicestershire. TG Jones, formerly known as WHSmith, is also continuing its wave of closures after already shutting 19 stores in September.
Lloyds Bank branch closures in October
Banking giant Lloyds Banking Group, which encompasses Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, is closing more than 20 branches during October. The group has previously stated that the way its customers choose to bank is constantly evolving, which can necessitate closing or relocating branches.
A spokesperson said: "When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers - including how they continue to access banking services."

Lloyds Bank branches scheduled to close in October include: Rochdale on October 1; Barnsley, Chatham, Camborne, Chepstow and Ryde on October 5-7; Birmingham Harborne and Deal on October 8; Gorseinon, South Shields and Totton on October 12; Blackpool and Stamford on October 13; Bristol Knowle on October 14; Rotherham and St Helens on October 15; Devizes, Petersfield and Widnes on October 21; Chesterfield on October 22; Nottingham Arnold on October 27; Llandudno on October 28; and Braintree on October 29.
B&Q Wigston closure confirmed
B&Q has confirmed that its store in Wigston, Leicestershire, will cease trading at 4pm on Saturday, October 3, after its lease was not renewed. A B&Q spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the lease at our Wigston [store] has expired and our landlord does not intend to renew it, which regrettably means the store will close later this year."
The spokesperson added: "We are currently consulting with affected colleagues and our priority is to support them through this period of change, while continuing to explore alternative premises in the area."
TG Jones closures
TG Jones, formerly known as WHSmith, has yet to confirm exactly how many branches will shut in October, having already closed 19 stores in September. Modella Capital, the owner of TG Jones, secured approval for a company restructuring in July, and it is believed that as many as 150 stores could be at risk of closure as a result.
Britain's high streets have faced another turbulent year in 2026, with familiar names including Russell & Bromley, LK Bennett and Claire's reducing their presence. Some towns are struggling with vacancy rates reaching the mid-to-high teens, while others have kept empty retail space below 5%.
