The name Le Creuset comes from the French term for 'crucible' or 'cauldron', which is a container used to melt metals at high temperatures. This inspiration reflects the brand's durable, heat-resistant cookware.
Pronunciation lesson
In a cheeky Facebook post, Le Creuset wrote: "Consider this your official French pronunciation lesson. Did you already know how to pronounce Le Creuset? It's Luh-Cru-Say NOT Le Crew-set, Le Cruise-ay, La Cruss-et, Le Croissant. It's French!"
Many people commented on the post, admitting they had been pronouncing it incorrectly. One former employee said: "Interesting…I worked at an outlet for a while and said LehCrewSay and they didn’t even fire me!"
