Just a Fiver, the discount shop on Grainger Street in Newcastle city centre, has reopened and is selling England-themed merchandise for £5 as fans prepare for the World Cup semi-final against Argentina. The store took to Instagram to announce that approximately 80 England t-shirts remained, available in red, navy, and white, urging customers to come quickly on a first-come, first-served basis.
Bargain Gear for Fans
In addition to t-shirts, the store offers bucket hats in two reversible styles at £5 each, XL England flags for £5, 10-meter buntings for £2, and car flags for £3. The shop reported that the items were “flying out” within an hour and a half of opening.
England's World Cup Journey
England’s path to the semi-final has been challenging. In the round of 32, they fell 1-0 down to DR Congo after seven minutes but recovered with two goals from Harry Kane. They then defeated Mexico 3-2 at the Azteca despite being reduced to 10 men after Jarell Quansah received a straight red card. In the quarter-final against Norway, Jude Bellingham scored twice, once before halftime and once early in extra time, to secure a comeback victory.
Fan Zones and Other Hotspots
Newcastle is hosting fan zones, including what is described as “the biggest ever” in the city, to show the match against Argentina in Atlanta. Other popular spots for England fans include The Basement vintage store in Old Eldon Square, which regularly restocks retro England shirts, and Bertie’s over the High Level Bridge in Gateshead.
Just a Fiver reopened at the start of the week, and its Instagram post at 11am warned: “LAST CHANCE got about 80 or so England t-shirts left been open an hour and a half flying out they are. £5 each. First come first served.”
