Iceland has confirmed it is rolling out a new rapid grocery delivery service to more than 200 of its UK stores before Christmas. The retailer, known for its affordable frozen food ranges, has already launched the Rapid Online Delivery service across 17 initial stores in London.
Rollout schedule and availability
A wider rollout across London is planned from October 19. From October 26, the supermarket will expand the service to cities including Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool. Before Christmas, the service will be available in more than 200 Iceland stores nationwide.
Customers place orders through the Iceland app or on the website, and deliveries are made within an hour from participating stores. During the launch period, Iceland is offering free delivery on Rapid orders to encourage shoppers to try the service.
Customer experience and ordering details
"We understand that food plans can change at the drop of a hat," an Iceland spokesperson said. "Whether it’s forgotten essentials for dinner, snacks for the kids’ packed lunches, or a craving you have to satisfy, shoppers can order with confidence knowing they can get what they need delivered at speed."
They added: "That’s why we’ve launched our Rapid Online Delivery service, offering customers delivery within an hour." The rapid orders are picked and packed by participating Iceland stores and handed to third-party delivery partners. Shoppers can track their order after dispatch.
Minimum spend and recent expansions
There is a £15 minimum spend to use the service, and the range available excludes some large and bulky products. The move follows Iceland's expanded partnership with Amazon earlier this year. In February, customers in Northern Ireland could order Iceland groceries through Amazon for the first time, and the service was later expanded to Cardiff, Edinburgh and Nottingham.
Iceland also offers free next-day delivery for shoppers nationwide when they spend £40 online. The company says its online exclusive deals make some products cheaper than Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.
