Greggs Christmas range taste test: festive flatbread is the standout
Greggs Christmas range: festive flatbread steals the show

Greggs has released the second drop of its Christmas range, and one item in particular stood out during a taste test: the Festive Flatbread, priced at £3.75, earned a perfect 10/10 rating. The flatbread, which contains the same filling as the returning Festive Feast Baguette, was described as "phenomenal" and "one of the best flatbreads that Greggs has ever released."

New and returning festive items

The new range includes the return of the Festive Bake, which Greggs said has a "new and improved recipe." The Festive Feast Baguette also returns, featuring chicken, sweetcure bacon, dried cranberries, pork, sage and onion stuffing, mayonnaise, and sage and onion seasoning. For those seeking a lighter option, the flatbread offers the same filling and flavour.

The taste test covered five festive hot food items, a hot chocolate, and two new sweet treats. Among the hot items, the Festive Flatbread was the clear winner, praised for its combination of festive flavours, particularly the sage and onion stuffing, which the tester likened to Paxo.

Mixed results for other items

The Candy Cane Mint Hot Chocolate, priced at £2.90, was found to be smooth and sweet but lacked any discernible mint flavour, despite being described as such on the menu. The tester's partner also could not taste mint, leading to a 3/10 rating.

The Festive Bake scored 6/10, with the tester noting plenty of chicken and ham hock meat, but the spiced pork stuffing and sage and cranberry sauce were "anonymous" in flavour. In contrast, the Pepperoni Hot Honey Pizza, at £2.70, scored 8/10, with the tester praising the balance of savoury, sweet and spice. The Pigs Under Blankets Toastie, priced at £4.10, earned 7/10, with the bacon and cranberry and red onion relish combining well.

Sweet treats and final ratings

The Six Pigs in Blankets, at £2.50, scored 8/10, described as a perfect addition to the menu. The White Chocolate Gingerbread Cookie, priced at £1.70, and the Millionaire's Doughnut, at £1.50, scored 10/10 and 9/10 respectively. The cookie, topped with a gold sugar crunch, was praised for being moist and gooey, while the doughnut, filled with caramel and topped with chocolate icing and shortcake pieces, was described as "very messy" but special.
