Greggs has pulled the Steak and Stilton Bake from its shops only weeks after resurrecting the item, as the bakery chain rolls out its annual Christmas menu.
The savoury pastry, described as "diced beef cooked in a rich gravy, blue stilton cheese and grilled onions in puff pastry", was originally discontinued in 2019 before returning temporarily in September. Its latest removal has disappointed customers, with several taking to social media to call for its return.
Customer reaction to the removal
One person wrote on social media: "Bring back Steak and Stilton! Please." Another added: "Bring back the Steak and Stilton, miles better", while a third said: "Wish they kept the Steak and Stilton."
A fourth said they were "gutted" to learn the treat was no longer on offer. "They are by far the best thing I've ever had from Greggs and I hope they come back," they added.
Festive menu launched
The chain's Christmas range includes the Festive Bake, a slice of puff pastry filled with chicken, ham, bacon, stuffing and cranberry sauce, which returned last week with a "new and improved" recipe. Greggs has branded it "the most Christmassy thing about Christmas".
Other festive savoury items include a Pigs Under Blankets Baguette and Christmas Lunch Soup, while sweet treats feature a Christmas Cake Slice, Star Biscuit, Shortbread Bites, Christmas Tree Biscuit and Christmas Bun. Seasonal drinks such as the Mint Mocha, Mint Hot Chocolate and Salted Caramel Latte are also available.
Future return promised
Greggs has pledged to bring the Steak and Stilton Bake back but has not specified a timeframe. A spokesperson said: "Our Steak and Stilton Bake is currently taking a break, but fans can rest assured it will return at a later date. In the meantime, we've welcomed our Christmas menu into shops this week, including the iconic Festive Bake."
