Georgy Porgy's, a new pie and mash shop on Bowes Street in Blyth, Northumberland, sold out of food on its opening day after queues formed down the street. The launch weekend drew large crowds, with staff reporting a complete sell-out of food on the first day.
Launch Weekend Draws Crowds
ChronicleLive first reported the shop's arrival at the start of last month when signs went up outside the premises. The business's first Facebook post generated a strong reaction, foreshadowing the busy opening weekend that followed as Georgy Porgy's welcomed its first customers.
Owner Karen's promise of 'buttery mash, incredible fillings and northern gravy' resonated with many, contributing to the turnout. In a Facebook post, Georgy Porgy's wrote: "You absolutely cleared us out. To everyone who queued, ordered and welcomed us to the community today - a massive, heartfelt THANK YOU."
Menu and Offerings
The shop's menu includes pies such as steak, mince & onion, chicken balti, and cheese & onion, all priced at £7.50 and served with mashed potato, mushy peas, gravy, and crispy onions. A selection of soft drinks is available, and cakes are offered daily with normal or pink custard.
Georgy Porgy's current opening hours are 11am to 3pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. After the busy weekend, staff shared photos of pies on the Georgy Porgy Facebook page, and the shop is set to continue serving customers through the week.
