Ultimate Performance, a worldwide personal training gym chain loved by actress Gemma Atkinson, has permanently closed its Liverpool branch at St Paul's Square. A removal van was spotted outside the site on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, with workers removing signs and equipment, confirming the closure that occurred last week.
Gemma Atkinson's Connection to the Gym
Gemma Atkinson, best known for playing Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks, completed a widely publicised 12-week body transformation with Ultimate Performance before appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017. She trained at the Manchester branch and documented her journey through blogs, videos, and social media. She continued working with the company post-transformation, including post-pregnancy training after the birth of her daughter in 2019, with trainer Steve Chambers.
Closure Details
The team confirmed the Liverpool branch closed last week. As of July 7, the location has been removed from the Ultimate Performance website and is marked as permanently closed on Google. Multiple men were seen removing equipment from the site.
Global Presence
Ultimate Performance operates 25 private personal training gyms across nine cities and regions in six countries, including the UK (Manchester, Leeds, Cheshire), the United States, Singapore, and Australia. The company was founded in response to what it describes as poor professional standards and zero accountability in the personal training industry.
On its website, the brand states: “We are the world’s leading personal training business for one reason – the exceptional results we deliver. With private locations around the world, we’ve helped tens of thousands of clients transform their bodies, health, and performance using a method proven over 15+ years. That consistency is not accidental. It’s the result of a system built on clear standards, expert people, disciplined execution, and total accountability for outcomes.”
