Ramsbottom's Frank's Burger Shop closes, new concept coming
Frank's Burger Shop in Ramsbottom closes, new concept planned

Frank's Burger Shop, a popular burger joint in Ramsbottom that was named one of the best by locals, closed its doors on Sunday evening (October 18) after six years. The owners, Matt and Nick, have announced plans for a new concept set to launch in early November.

The shop opened in the former Roots unit on Bolton Road West during the pandemic, after Matt and Nick identified a gap in the local market for a gourmet burger offering. Known for using high quality meat for its beef and chicken burgers, locally-sourced ingredients for homemade brioche buns, and hand-cut fries, the concept earned a reputation as one of the best in the city-region.

Why the owners decided to close

Explaining the decision, the owners said: "So, the time has come to say goodbye to Franks. We started at the beginning of Covid, after closing the doors to 'Roots' due to lockdown restrictions. We (Matt and Nick) quickly realised that Rammy needed a decent gourmet burger shop, and we set to work. No corners cut- the best meat, homemade brioche and hand cut, proper fries. It worked, and it worked well. So well we even got a slot on BBC breakfast (remember that?!?)"

They added: "So after a long hard thought, We've decided it's time to go back to our roots, we've seen enough burgers for a little while… so we'll be back open early November with a new concept!"

New concept with local partners

The new concept will be a partnership with local businesses Zip Coffee and Marrow. The owners teased that it will be 'something that we think's missing from Rammy', consisting of 'coffee, fire and wine'.

In the days leading up to the closure, the team at Frank's said they had been fully booked with a high number of pre-orders 'like the lockdown days'.

Customers react to the closure

Regular customers responded to the announcement with a mix of sadness and support. One person said: "rest in peace franks burgers. forever in our hearts." Another posted: "Oh man. Absolutely DEVASTATED about this news. Gutted to hear....wish you all the best though." One other commented: "Oh no. Best burgers in town. You'll be missed."

Another regular wrote: "Brilliant burgers (& everything else!). It's been a joy eating so many of them! Sad to see them go but excited to see the next venture." Another simply said: "End of an era x."

Details for the new concept will be announced in the coming weeks ahead of the November launch.
