A man who stalked his ex-girlfriend and cracked an egg over her head in a café has been jailed for 18 months. Declan Meagher, 24, of Livingston Drive South in Aigburth, admitted stalking causing fear of violence, two counts of assault by beating and obstructing a police constable. Liverpool Crown Court heard how he bombarded his former partner with up to 200 phone calls a day and threatened to chop her mum's legs off.
Campaign of harassment
Meagher had been in a relationship with the woman, who has not been named, for around a year between August 2025 and June 2026. The relationship ended after he pulled at her underwear while accusing her of cheating during a friend's birthday party on June 7. The victim split up with him the following day and told him not to contact her again.
Prosecutor Olivia Randell described how Meagher then contacted her 200 times a day from an unknown number. When she answered, he would make comments like "come here and talk to me, you're dead." He also contacted her previous employer, damaged her belongings and spread malicious rumours, as well as attending her property and events where she was present.
Egg attack and arrest
On June 21, the victim was at a café in Garston when Meagher entered, grabbed her by the arm and dragged her outside. He took an egg from his pocket, cracked it over her head and spat at her. He was arrested the following day but ran from officers at Belle Vale Police Station before being detained on nearby Abbeyvale Drive.
After being released in August, Meagher resumed his stalking despite bail conditions ordering him not to contact her. He threatened to "make a video of her begging for her life" and told her he would "chop her mum's legs off." He was arrested in his garden on August 17 after posting pictures of her on Facebook.
Sentencing
In a victim statement read to the court, the woman said she felt anxious about leaving her house and was fearful he would kill her. Meagher has nine convictions for 15 offences, including grievous bodily harm with intent as a youth in 2016 and 18 months for assault and intentional strangulation against another ex in November 2024.
Judge David Swinnerton jailed him for 18 months and handed him a 10-year restraining order. The judge said: "It was petty. It was nasty. It was designed to humiliate her. I assume you don't carry an uncooked egg in your pocket routinely, and you took it to do what you did. If you carry on like this, you are just going to end up back in prison, probably for a long period of time."
