Dunelm's 3p-an-hour heated blanket wows shoppers

Dunelm shoppers can get their hands on a "luxurious" blanket that brings extra warmth into homes this autumn and winter. Described as being "perfect for any chilly evening", the heated blanket is said to help homeowners "save putting the heating on".

Prices and sizes

Dunelm's Teddy Electric Throw is on offer in stores and online, with prices starting from £32 for the 130cm x 160cm size. Shoppers can pick from two colour options (cream or charcoal) or go for the larger 200cm x 200cm version for £55, which is big enough for two people.

Based on the current energy price cap, shoppers who use this device to stay warm in the winter can expect to pay, on average, about 3p per hour it is turned on. Devices like this are backed by money-saving experts like Martin Lewis, who advises people who want cost-effective ways to stay warm to focus on the human, not the house.

Shopper reviews

There are similar electric blankets available elsewhere, such as The Range's Heated Throw Electric Fleece Blanket (£22.99, four colour options), the Neo Electric Heated Throw Over Sherpa Blanket at Debenhams (£26, reduced from £74.99, three colour options) and Matalan's offer on the Stone Heated Electric Blanket from Silentnight. But, Dunelm's Teddy Blanket has hundreds of shoppers raving.

In the reviews, one said: "This is the best I found. Can hardly feel the wires, so it's really comfortable. It has a really lovely warmth to it, very comforting if you are prone to feel the cold." Another wrote: "Bought throw to save putting heating on when on my own in the house. Heats up quickly, only used on low setting as it gets really hot. Lovely and cosy on it's own too."

A third put in their review: "How did I live without it?! Warm, soft and cosy. The best heated blanket I’ve seen." Someone else said: "Great quality and looks very stylish and cosy. Saving me a fortune not putting heating on."

Mixed feedback

But not every shopper was pleased. One claims: "Don’t buy this. It has very thin heated elements and takes forever to warm up very slowly. Barely makes a difference. Very disappointing."

Another said: "I had to return the throw as it didn't heat properly. Even on the maximum setting, it only reached a lukewarm temperature, and that was not consistent across the whole throw."

Despite these criticisms, the majority of shoppers loved the blanket, like one who said: "Best thing I’ve bought, use it to stay warm on the sofa and when working from home. Really cosy and well made - has different heat settings and auto times off after 90 minutes."
