Dunelm's 3p-an-hour heated throw shoppers call 'magic'
Dunelm heated throw at 3p an hour hailed as 'magic'

Dunelm's Fleece Electric Throw, priced at £30, costs around 3p an hour to run, and shoppers say it keeps them “warm all day without turning central heating on”. The 130cm by 160cm heated throw is available in stores and online in two colours – charcoal and taupe brown.

What is a heated throw?

Although electric throws and electric blankets are often used interchangeably, they are quite different and do different jobs. A heated throw is smaller than an electric blanket and is made for individual use, working well draped across shoulders, on the couch, or tucked around a favourite chair. Heated throws are portable and versatile, delivering targeted, immediate warmth whether working from home or watching shows.

Electric blankets, by contrast, are designed to warm a bed and come in sizes that match typical bed measurements, making them ideal for partners or anyone seeking a warm mattress across its entire surface.

The heated blanket is said to “warm up quickly” and heats you up “even on the lower setting”. Describing the 100W blanket online, Dunelm said, “Experience exceptional warmth and comfort with this beautiful heated throw, crafted from fleece for a soft and cosy feel. With six adjustable heat settings, you can easily customise your comfort level. Conveniently machine washable, it ensures effortless care and long-lasting durability. Stay warm and snug with this versatile and practical heated throw.”

Among the reviews, one person said, “This throw is so lovely. The quality is outstanding, and when heated, it’s so cosy. My daughter tried it, and she’s now bought one to use whilst working from home ready for winter. I would definitely recommend this throw for quality, value for money, and the benefit of warmth too.” Another wrote: “You can't go wrong for the price; it's warm, it's soft, and it's a generous size. What else do you need? Keeps me warm all day without turning central heating on!” A third commented, “These throws are magic – no boosting the boiler, no ultra-expensive fan heater, no more layers of heavy woolly wraps. So now, quick heat up, all over the electric throw, and variable at a click. And the TV room heating down to the ambient setting.”

However, some customers found the product faulty. One claimed, “Was loving this throw, but sadly, after using it around 10 times and after the second wash, the controller was displaying faulty.” Another commented, “The blanket started showing F3 error. You have to keep it on low, and then it stops working again after a while.”
