Dunelm is selling a Fleece Electric Throw for £30 that costs around 3p an hour to run, offering households a cheaper alternative to central heating as energy bills rise this autumn and winter.
The 130cm by 160cm heated throw is available in stores and online in two colours — charcoal and taupe brown. It has six adjustable heat settings and is machine washable, according to the product description on Dunelm's website.
What is a heated throw?
Heated throws differ from electric blankets. A throw is smaller and designed for personal use, such as draping over shoulders or using on a sofa, while an electric blanket is sized to fit a bed and warms the whole mattress surface.
Dunelm describes the 100W blanket as: "Experience exceptional warmth and comfort with this beautiful heated throw, crafted from fleece for a soft and cosy feel. With six adjustable heat settings, you can easily customise your comfort level. Conveniently machine washable, it ensures effortless care and long-lasting durability. Stay warm and snug with this versatile and practical heated throw."
Shopper reviews
Shoppers have praised the throw for keeping them warm without central heating. One said: "This throw is so lovely. The quality is outstanding, and when heated, it's so cosy. My daughter tried it, and she's now bought one to use whilst working from home ready for winter. I would definitely recommend this throw for quality, value for money, and the benefit of warmth too."
Another wrote: "You can't go wrong for the price; it's warm, it's soft, and it's a generous size. What else do you need? Keeps me warm all day without turning central heating on!"
However, some buyers reported faults. One said: "Was loving this throw, but sadly, after using it around 10 times and after the second wash, the controller was displaying faulty." Another added: "The blanket started showing F3 error. You have to keep it on low, and then it stops working again after a while."
