Co-op Recalls Pork Pies Over Undeclared Milk Allergen

Co-op has issued an urgent recall for its Mini Pork & Pickle Pies (4 pack) after discovering they contain milk, which is not listed on the packaging. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed the recall, warning consumers with a milk allergy or intolerance not to eat the product.

The affected batches have use-by dates of 13 August, 14 August, and 16 August, and come in 200g four-packs. Customers who have purchased these products can return them for a full refund or exchange. Online buyers can arrange a refund by calling 0330 041 7737, while others can contact Co-op’s help line on 0800 0686 727 or use the online form on the retailer’s product issues webpage.

The FSA stated: “Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an allergy alert.” Co-op has also notified allergy support groups and placed notices in stores, which will remain until August 17.

Allergic reactions to milk can range from skin reactions and gastrointestinal issues to respiratory symptoms. In severe cases, it can cause anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal reaction requiring immediate medical attention. This recall follows a recent cyber attack on Co-op that compromised the details of 6.5 million members.
