Co-op has issued an urgent recall for its own-brand pork pies after discovering they contain milk, which was not declared on the packaging. The undeclared allergen poses a significant risk to those with milk allergies or intolerances.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has flagged the product as a potential health hazard, urging customers to check their purchases. The affected items are the Co-op 2 Pork Pies (150g) with a use-by date of 26 May 2025.
What Should Customers Do?
If you have purchased the affected product, the FSA advises:
- Do not consume the pork pies if you have a milk allergy or intolerance.
- Return the product to your nearest Co-op store for a full refund – no receipt is required.
- Contact Co-op’s customer care team if you have further concerns.
Why Was the Recall Issued?
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that milk, a potential allergen, was not listed in the ingredients. This oversight could lead to severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, in sensitive individuals.
Co-op has apologised for the error and assured customers that they are working with suppliers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
