Claire's Employee Documents Drastic Clearance Sales as Retailer Enters Administration
A Claire's employee has provided a stark insight into the reality of working for the high street retailer as it falls into administration, revealing heavily discounted prices in stores preparing for potential closure.
Widespread Store Closures and Job Losses Loom
The beloved teenage accessories chain now faces the closure of 154 stores across the United Kingdom, with 1,355 staff members at risk of redundancy. This crisis follows owner Modella Capital filing for bankruptcy last year, which has placed approximately 2,500 jobs in jeopardy across both Claire's and The Original Factory Shop.
Philip Dakin, Benjamin Wiles and Janet Burt of Kroll Advisory Ltd were appointed Joint Administrators of CAUKI Limited, trading as Claire's UK & Ireland, on January 26, 2026. The administrators are managing the company's affairs while acting as agents without personal liability, bound by the Insolvency Code of Ethics.
Blackpool Worker Showcases Dramatic Price Reductions
As branches prepare for closure unless a new buyer emerges, merchandise is being sold at drastically reduced prices. A Blackpool employee documented these dramatic clearance sales on TikTok under the account @claresbpl, providing regular updates about the store's situation.
"As we reach the week four update regarding Claire's situation in Blackpool, there continues to be no news," the employee stated in the footage. "However, some might say that no news is good news, suggesting that the absence of updates could indicate stability."
The employee emphasized the importance of followers, customers and stakeholders remaining engaged while awaiting further developments about the retailer's future.
Substantial Discount Structure Revealed
The TikTok video revealed a comprehensive discount structure now in place across Claire's stores. All hair accessories are currently retailing at £2, while products with red stickers receive 75 percent off with an additional 50 percent discount off the reduced price.
Merchandise bearing green stickers receives 50 percent off with a further 50 percent off that discounted price. Most products in the shop are now selling for approximately £2, encompassing hair accessories, bracelets, earrings and necklaces.
The chain is also offering a three-for-two promotion on nearly everything available, creating unprecedented bargain opportunities for customers.
Customer Reactions to Closure Sales
Reacting to the video documenting the clearance sales, social media users expressed mixed emotions about the situation. One user wrote: "Me and my mum are hopefully popping into town this week for some bargains."
Another user shared a more concerning experience: "We had no news from August 11 until December 5 when our DSM told us to close that evening and not reopen (Italy). Suspended with no payments till now!"
A third comment highlighted store size differences: "So jealous - your shop is huge! Mine is tiny," indicating varying experiences across the retailer's locations.
The future of Claire's UK operations remains uncertain as administrators continue their work and customers take advantage of the substantial discounts available during this period of transition for the iconic high street retailer.
