A man has stumbled upon a remarkable bargain in a charity shop, purchasing an office chair for less than £4 that is worth more than £1,000. The lucky buyer's sibling shared the find on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, revealing the chair was sourced from Goodwill, a network of charity shops in the US and Canada.
The chair, which appeared ordinary at first glance, was priced at $4.99 (£3.81) due to its unassuming appearance. However, a closer look revealed the brand 'Herman Miller' inscribed on the back. Herman Miller is a renowned American firm specialising in bespoke office furniture, famous for creating the office cubicle in 1968.
On Herman Miller's UK website, a similar chair retails for £1,149. The company boasts of its 'innovative design and support for a range of postures, activities and body types.' The discovery sparked amazement among social media users, with one commenting that finding a $1,000 chair for $5 was 'the craziest s**t I ever seen.'
Others shared their own experiences of finding Herman Miller chairs at bargain prices, indicating that many people are unaware of the value of such items when clearing out their homes.
