Card Centre, the family-owned greeting card retailer acquired by Cardzone, is closing its Newport store. The branch has launched a closing-down sale with 20% off all remaining stock, though the final trading day has not been announced.
Previous closures
Since 2023, the company has shut several stores including in Beeston, Blackpool, Chesterfield, King’s Lynn, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Reigate, Scunthorpe and Stroud. Earlier this year, its Didcot branch at the Orchard Centre also closed after an “everything must go” sale with discounts up to 50%.
Company background
Cardzone, founded in 2004 by Paul Taylor, acquired Card Centre in 2014 in a deal involving 14 stores across Wales, later expanding the brand into Northern Ireland. The group’s portfolio also includes Hallmark, Mooch, Paper Kisses, and Yankee Candles, and still operates more than 150 stores overall despite the recent closures.
Cardzone acquired Hallmark in 2016, Yankee Candle’s outlet business in 2020, and Mooch in 2021, with Mooch rolling out across the UK in 2023.
