B&Q clearance cuts room heater to £25, costs 53p an hour to run

B&Q has reduced the price of its GoodHome 2000W White Convector Heater to £25 in a clearance sale, offering a way to warm rooms "very quickly" without turning on central heating. The own-brand device, originally priced at £40, has been discounted twice to reach its current clearance cost.

Running at full capacity, the heater costs approximately 52.6p per hour, according to the Mirror. In its online description, B&Q states: "The GoodHome 2000W White Convector Heater is perfect for keeping you warm during cold seasons."

Features and availability

The heater features two heating speeds, a digital thermostat, and a timer that can be set for up to 24 hours. Its integrated turbo fan function is designed to heat rooms quickly and evenly, while tilt and overheating protection are included for safety.

Due to its clearance status, availability is restricted. The item can only be purchased online for click-and-collect at a nearby branch, with several stores offering collection "in as little as 15 minutes" at no extra charge.

Customer reviews and alternatives

Customer feedback has been largely positive. One reviewer said: "What a great heater. My boiler packed up so no heating and this little gem was fantastic. Heat's up a large room in no time. In fact, I had to turn it off because the room was so hot!" Another wrote: "Bought to use as backup heating in my study. Works really well." A third commented: "Excellent for heating a small room in an old house."

However, some shoppers raised concerns. One dissatisfied customer claimed: "The fan on this heater isn't great, therefore the heat is poor." Another noted: "Downside is the control panel is on the side of the heater, so you need to kneel on the floor to switch it on, so it would not be ideal for the elderly. It would be better if it came with a remote control or if the control panel were on top of the heater."

Alternatives are available from other retailers, including Dunelm's 2000W Convector Heater at £28, the Fine Elements 2kW Slim Convector Heater from Wickes at £23, and the Russell Hobbs RHCVHTF2004 Portable Convector Heater from Currys at £46.99.

Despite the criticisms, the majority of reviews remain positive. One five-star reviewer said: "We bought this to heat up a converted garage, which is now a cold dining room. It works very quickly in the 10' x 15' space and is so effective, we have to turn it down!" Another added: "I bought this product as an emergency stopgap whilst my existing heating system was being repaired. The product was very easy to use and provided heat in all the right areas during a cold snap."
