Shoppers at B&M have been left puzzled after spotting a bag of honeycomb flavoured Maltesers in stores, with many believing it is the same as the original.
Maltesers, made with honeycomb in a spherical shape and layered in milk chocolate, derive their name from the malt flavour of the honeycomb. However, the new product features a plain honeycomb centre, which differs from the traditional malted milk flavour.
Instagram account New Foods UK shared an image of the honeycomb Maltesers found at B&M, prompting comments such as "Isn't that what Maltesers are?" and "as opposed to…?" Some users pointed out the distinction: "The inside of Maltesers is still honeycomb, just malt flavoured honeycomb" – to which New Foods UK replied, "when you try them you will taste the difference straight away."
B&M, founded in 1978 in Cleveleys, Lancashire, now operates over 880 stores in the UK and 104 in France. The retailer is known for its wide range of products, from food to homeware.
