M&S Beats Aldi in Supermarket Wine Value, Says Expert

Marks & Spencer is currently offering some of the best value wines among UK supermarkets, according to wine expert Fiona Beckett. While Aldi has historically been strong, its quality has dipped recently, with only a few decent French and Chilean options remaining.

Beckett notes that supermarket wine quality fluctuates based on buying teams and pricing pressures. Aldi's Pierre Jaurant range, including a new fitou, and Estevez Chilean reds are still decent, but many of its wines are now over-soft and sickly sweet. In contrast, M&S is on 'cracking form' with its Found and Expressions ranges, offering keen prices that rival discounters.

However, Beckett criticises M&S for overly complicated ranges and online purchasing difficulties, with some wines only available via Ocado at higher prices. Despite this, she highlights several standout bottles: M&S Found Refosco 2022 (£7.50), M&S Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico 2022 (£7.50), Aldi Estevez Chilean Merlot 2022 (£4.29), Aldi Pierre Jaurant French Fitou 2022 (£6.99), and M&S Expressions Marsanne 2023 (£9).
