With summer heatwaves making candles less appealing, electric diffusers have become a popular alternative for keeping rooms fresh. John Lewis reports that searches for diffusers have risen 42% since summer began, while searches for electric diffusers specifically have jumped 82%.
Why electric diffusers are trending
Unlike candles, these devices release a fine scented mist using ultrasonic vibrations or gently warm fragrance pods without a naked flame. The trend shows no signs of slowing down.

It is mains-powered, so it needs to be plugged in while in use. One shopper noted it can be a little fiddly to clean because the electronics sit beneath the water tank.
