BBC TV chef Ajay Kumar has announced the closure of his Indian barbecue restaurant Grilled in Glasgow after just one year in business. The Great British Menu star described the decision as difficult and the journey as 'unforgettable'.
Restaurant Closure Details
Kumar, who appeared on the Great British Menu in 2024, opened Grilled the following year. The restaurant offered a contemporary take on traditional Indian barbecue. The closure was confirmed via a notice on the restaurant's website, stating it is 'permanently no longer trading'.
In the notice, Kumar expressed gratitude: 'After an unforgettable journey, we have made the difficult decision to close Grilled... From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every guest who dined with us, celebrated special moments, and supported us over the years.'
Chef's Background
Born in Punjab, India, Kumar appeared on MasterChef in India, Malaysia, and Singapore before settling in Scotland in 2009. He also runs Swadish, another Glasgow restaurant he opened in 2019, which remains open. Customers with gift vouchers for Grilled can redeem them at Swadish or request a refund via email.
