Aldi has updated its list of 'required locations' for new supermarkets, revealing 160 areas across the UK where it hopes to open stores. Among them are four locations in Greater Manchester, including Scholes and Golborne in Wigan, Cheadle, and Oldham Mumps.
Expansion Plans
In January, the budget grocer announced plans to open 40 new supermarkets across the UK by the end of the year. While the exact locations were not revealed at the time, Aldi listed 124 possible sites. It has now expanded that list to 160.
The update follows the opening of a new Aldi store on Trafford Road in Salford in May 2026.

Commenting in January on the supermarket's plans, Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer at Aldi UK and Ireland, said: "Our unwavering commitment is to make high-quality, affordable groceries accessible to everybody. But we recognise that there are still areas without an Aldi store, so our expansion plans for 2026 are designed to address some of these gaps as we work towards our long-term goal of 1,500 UK stores. We’ve always believed that access to high-quality affordable food is a right, not a privilege, and that’s why it’s our mission to make this a reality for customers up and down the UK."
