Aldi to Trial Earlier Closing Times in Major Change for Shoppers
Aldi to Trial Earlier Closing Times for Shoppers

Aldi is set to trial earlier closing times at some of its stores, potentially altering shopping routines for customers who prefer late-night visits. The trial will see certain branches close at 9pm instead of the usual 10pm, with some stores already implementing the change and others expected to follow this month.

Trial Details and Locations

According to The Mirror, the current closing time of 10pm will be reduced to 9pm in select areas. Signage has been placed in affected stores to notify customers, as reported by The Sun. A shop worker in Derbyshire shared on Facebook that the Heanor store would close at 9pm from Monday to Saturday starting July 13, with no change on Sundays. The post noted the change is a trial but could become permanent. Another employee in the West Midlands confirmed their branch would close at 9pm from July 16.

Customer Feedback and Expansion Plans

Aldi stated that customer feedback on the trial will be considered before further decisions are made. The company operates 1,084 stores in the UK, with around 48 already closing at 9pm. This number is expected to increase. Aldi aims to expand to 1,500 stores, with 16 new openings planned in the coming months, including in new locations, and 25 stores set for upgrades.

Aldi said: “As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, our commitment to customers is that they will always pay the lowest possible prices every time they shop with us. Our efficient business model means that we are always looking for new ways to pass on even greater savings to Aldi shoppers.”

Store Upgrades and Sustainability

Upgrades will vary by location and may include more shopping space, energy-efficient fridge doors, and improvements to bakery, health and beauty, and fresh food sections. These changes aim to enhance the shopping experience while maintaining low prices.
