Aldi has confirmed plans to open three new stores across Merseyside as part of its £900m investment programme, with the North West set to receive around £60m in 2027.
The new Merseyside locations are in Upton, Seacombe and St Helens. The supermarket will also open a store in Horwich, Greater Manchester, and extend its existing branch in Accrington, Lancashire, to create more space for customers and improve the store layout.
Expansion across the UK
The plans form part of Aldi’s wider ambition to open 40 new stores across the UK during the year, alongside continued investment in its distribution network. Aldi currently operates 1,095 stores and aims to grow to 1,500 across the UK, focusing on communities that lack easy access to affordable groceries due to limited local choice or competition.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: "We're continuing to invest significantly across the UK as we progress towards our long-term ambition of 1,500 Aldi stores."
Continued growth before 2027
He added: "These new locations are part of our £900 million investment programme for 2027 and will help us bring Aldi's award-winning quality and unbeatable value to even more communities. We're excited to take the next step in our expansion plans and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors of these new stores in the years ahead."
The investment builds on Aldi’s existing expansion programme, with the supermarket set to open 30 stores during the final months of 2026. The full list of stores opening before the end of 2026 includes locations in Bishop’s Cleeve, Malton, Orpington, Ashford, Newport, Basildon, Matlock, Wimborne, Stepney Green, Orrell, Dumbarton, Stourport-on-Severn, Epsom, Wellington, Hattersley, Hanworth, Willesden, Longbridge, Waterlooville, Egremont, Lower Gornal, Driffield and Chatham.
