Aldi has confirmed the full list of more than 30 stores that will undergo major upgrades this summer as part of a £90 million investment programme. The supermarket chain said the refurbishments will take place predominantly in June, July and August, with over 100 stores across the UK set to benefit throughout 2024.
The improvements will vary by location but include expanded floor space, updated layouts and new signage. Aldi also plans to install energy-efficient technology such as fridge doors and natural refrigerants to cut carbon emissions, aligning with its sustainability goals.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: 'Aldi attracted more new customers than any other grocery retailer in the last 12 months, and we want to continue to offer the best possible in-store experience for our shoppers.' He added that reducing environmental impact remains a key focus as the chain grows towards its long-term target of 1,500 stores across the country, having already surpassed 1,000.
The upgrades come as Aldi seeks to maintain its competitive edge in the grocery market, with the discounter investing heavily in its estate to match its product quality and service standards. The full list of stores scheduled for refurbishment this summer has been released by the retailer.
