Aldi has confirmed a temporary change to its operating schedule for the New Year period, with adjusted hours set to affect shoppers across the United Kingdom.
Revised Festive Opening Schedule
The discount supermarket giant has announced that all of its stores will close earlier than usual on New Year's Eve, Wednesday 31 December 2025. Shops will shut their doors at 6pm, giving staff time to prepare for the celebrations.
Furthermore, every Aldi outlet in the country will remain closed for the entirety of New Year's Day, Thursday 1 January 2026. This follows the retailer's standard practice of closing on Christmas Day and Boxing Day to allow employees a break. Normal trading hours will resume on Friday 2 January, with stores open from 8am until 10pm.
Back-to-School Bargains Return in January
Separately, Aldi has revealed the return of its popular school uniform bundle, offering significant savings for parents. The bundle, which launches in stores on Saturday 4 January 2026, includes two polo shirts and a pair of trousers for just £3.50.
Available in a range of colours and sizes for children aged 4 to 12 years, the uniform is made from recycled polyester. Aldi is backing the quality of the items with a 12-month satisfaction guarantee, providing confidence to parents seeking durable, affordable options.
The retailer is also reintroducing its Leather School Shoes for £6.99, available in sizes 10 to 4. As a Specialbuy item, this product will not be restocked once sold out, prompting shoppers to act quickly.
Aldi's Rapid UK Expansion Continues
This news comes on the heels of a significant store opening spree by the supermarket chain. In a remarkable 24-hour period in mid-December, Aldi launched five new stores, creating approximately 200 new jobs.
The new locations are in Uxbridge, Old Kent Road, Northallerton, Pershore, and Yate. This expansion brings Aldi's total UK store count to around 1,070, with ambitious long-term plans to grow its estate to 1,500 stores nationwide.
Jon Neale, Real Estate Managing Director at Aldi UK, commented on the expansion, stating it reflects the strong customer demand across the UK and the scale of the company's growth ambitions.
