Aldi confirms opening date for new Wigan store next month

Aldi has confirmed that a new supermarket in Orrell, Wigan, will open on November 26, as part of a wave of seven store openings across the UK next month.

The budget grocer said the store will be built on a brownfield site off Orrell Road, offering a 'more convenient shopping destination' for local customers. The nearest Aldi stores are currently in Wigan and Skelmersdale.

Planning and Investment

A planning application was submitted to Wigan Council, and the new store is scheduled to open on November 26. Six other Aldi supermarkets in London, Essex, the Isle of Wight and Derbyshire are also set to open in November.

The openings are part of Aldi's £370m investment in its UK estate this year, with the grocer working towards a target of 1,500 stores nationwide.

Growth Plans and Job Creation

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: "Demand for new Aldi stores remains strong, and we want more shoppers to be able to enjoy our high-quality products at low prices."

"Opening seven stores in November is another big step in our growth plans. It will create hundreds of local jobs and bring Aldi’s value to thousands more shoppers across the country."

The announcement follows Aldi's earlier revelation of plans to open 24 new stores by the end of 2026. Across Greater Manchester, this number included the Orrell store and the Hattersley store, which opened last month.
