Aintree Asda Starbucks drive-thru construction underway after four-year wait
Aintree Asda Starbucks drive-thru construction underway

Construction is underway for a Starbucks drive-thru in the car park of Asda in Aintree, ending four years of speculation since plans were first submitted in 2022.

Plans finally materialize

The development, which will occupy part of the existing car park, was the subject of a planning application to Sefton Council in 2022. The applicant's agent, RPS, indicated at the time that the coffee shop would be operated by Starbucks.

Until now, no visible work had been carried out on the site, leaving the plans unconfirmed. In June, the ECHO contacted Starbucks to ask whether customers could expect a new store, but a spokesperson said: "I'm afraid we don't have any updates to share about plans for Aintree." Asda also declined to comment, stating that the works were being led by an external developer.

Progress and context

Now, signs have appeared indicating that the car park is finally set to receive its Starbucks after a four-year wait. A finishing date for the works has not yet been confirmed.

The news comes as Starbucks recently closed its longstanding site on Myrtle Street in Liverpool city centre. In September, the company announced an undisclosed number of UK store closures following a consultation on its global footprint, and the Myrtle Street branch shut in December.
