A TikTok user has shared a video showing how a £2.99 patio cleaner from Home Bargains removed moss and algae from her paving slabs, claiming it outperforms a popular £16 product.
Cheap cleaner delivers results
In a before-and-after clip, TikTok user @lauramarietaylor documented her success with the Spear & Jackson Select Path & Patio Cleaner 2.5L, which is marketed as a "powerful outdoor solution" that eliminates lichen, mould and algae to "restore your garden paths and patios to their natural beauty with ease".
Laura wrote alongside her video: "Don't spend £16 on Monty's. Get this bargain from Home Bargains." She highlighted that the Home Bargains patio cleaner costs just £2.99.
Stains vanish after application
Her clip began by showing her patio slabs covered in dirt, green moss and algae marks. After applying the solution, the patio appeared much cleaner, with the green stains completely eliminated. Laura noted that she tried the Monty Miracle patio cleaner, and "it didn't even shift the green colour/moss".
The Spear & Jackson patio cleaner is also available from B&M for £2.99 and on Amazon at £12.89 for a five-litre bottle. Amazon customers described it as a "good product and does the purpose for which it's intended very well", though they noted that particularly stubborn areas may require more than a single application.
How to use and a natural alternative
The 2.5L concentrate will yield between 12 and 13 litres of ready-to-use solution when diluted at a ratio of four parts water to one part concentrate. Before applying, clear any debris using a patio brush, and rinse thoroughly with a garden hose afterwards.
For those seeking a more environmentally friendly alternative, white vinegar — available from Home Bargains for just £1 — offers a natural solution. Patio specialists RF Paving explained: "Vinegar is not only a kitchen staple but also a powerful patio cleaner. A balanced mixture of white vinegar and water is both effective at cleaning your patio slabs and eco-friendly." The acetic acid composition in white vinegar makes it especially effective at removing moss from paving slabs.
Creating a vinegar-based cleaning solution is straightforward — simply combine equal parts white vinegar and water. For more stubborn staining, the vinegar concentration can be increased beyond the standard one to one ratio for a more potent mixture.
