Which? Taste Test: Lidl, Aldi, Morrisons Top Sausages

Consumer group Which? conducted a blind taste test of 10 supermarket own-label sausages alongside The Jolly Hog and Porky Whites, finding that own-brand varieties from Lidl, Aldi, and Morrisons outperformed the branded options.

Top Performers: Lidl, Aldi, and Morrisons

Lidl Deluxe Pork Sausages achieved the highest score of 73%, praised for their juiciness, consistency, and value at £2.49 for 400g. Aldi Specially Selected Pork Sausages scored 72%, described as 'impressive all-rounders' at the same price. Morrisons' The Best Thick Pork Sausages also scored 72%, costing £3.25 for 400g, with testers satisfied with their look, smell, and taste.

Branded Brands Fall Short

The Jolly Hog sausages scored 65%, with testers noting an attractive appearance and aroma but disappointing flavour and a 'too coarse' consistency. Porky Whites also scored 65%, with less than half of testers pleased with the consistency, and deemed short on taste despite looking attractive.

According to Which?, three own-label sausages earned 'Best Buy' recognition, highlighting that shoppers can find quality without paying a premium for branded products.
