PS Plus Members Get £70 Off Black Ops PS5 Ports Amid 'Cash Grab' Fury
PS Plus £70 Off Black Ops PS5 Ports Amid Cash Grab Fury

PlayStation gamers are facing an eye-watering bill after classic Call of Duty: Black Ops titles finally dropped onto the PlayStation Store. The PS5 and PS4 ports, released on July 9, 2026, have sparked fury among fans who accuse Activision of a cash grab, with the total cost for both games and their season passes reaching £121.96.

Gamers React to High Prices

Following weeks of anticipation, developers Treyarch, in partnership with Iron Galaxy, shadowdropped the ports on the PlayStation Store. However, fans were shocked to find the games priced at £34.99 each, with season passes for Black Ops 1 and 2 costing an additional £25.99 each. This means players must spend £121.96 for ports of games originally released nearly 16 and 14 years ago.

Long-time Call of Duty fans expressed their anger on Reddit. One user said: 'They released two decade and a half old games for 40 dollars and it doesn't even include dlc? Jesus.' Another added: 'If it's just the Xbox 360 game with no improvements those prices are crazy.' A third wrote: 'These games are old enough that the DLCs should have been included for free or in the price. I can't help but feel this release is nothing more than an easy cash grab.'

PS Plus Discount Offers Significant Savings

Thankfully, PS Plus subscribers can get the games for much less. Each game is priced at 50% off for PS Plus members, costing £17.49 each. The season passes cost a combined £17.14 for both games with PS Plus, saving 67% on the extra content. If you pick up both games and both season passes, the total cost is £52, a saving of £70 compared to the non-discounted price.

Despite the discount, some fans remain unsatisfied. One Redditor said: 'Should have just bundled the games and DLC for whatever price they felt was necessary for the bundle.' Another wrote: 'For £50 I managed to get both games and season passes because of the PS Plus discount, I am beyond shocked and amazed when I thought just one of the games would have cost £50 alone.' A third added: 'Increase the price if you have to, but selling the DLC maps separately is awful in 2026. We’re going back to the days of having to play bot matches to play DLC maps.'

Port Quality Under Fire

The quality of the ports has also come under criticism. With no changes to gameplay or graphics, even the discounted £52 cost is a hard sell for some. Another Reddit user said: 'It is a terrible port but this was my favorite COD from back then so I'm still having a good time. I just wish they had put more effort into it.' The backlash highlights growing frustration among gamers over re-releases that offer little improvement while demanding high prices.
