Rangers have been priced out of a move for American right-back Bryan Reynolds after French Ligue 1 club Rennes upped their offer to around £3.3 million, according to Record Sport.
Deal collapses after Rennes intervene
Record Sport understands that Rangers had a £2.5 million bid accepted by Belgian club Westerlo for US international Reynolds, and the player was keen on a move to Glasgow. However, Rennes have gazumped the Ibrox club by offering a higher fee, and Rangers will not engage in a bidding war.
The 24-year-old former Roma player now appears set to head to France instead of Scotland.
Rangers turn to other targets
With the Reynolds deal off, new Rangers boss Derek McInnes is now focusing on other targets. The club is on the verge of re-signing former utility man Ross McCrorie from Bristol City. However, Record Sport reports that Rangers are still open to adding further reinforcements at full-back ahead of the new campaign.
Rangers had identified Reynolds as a potential replacement for ex-skipper James Tavernier, who departed this summer. They had hoped to pair him with his former Westerlo teammate Tuur Rommens, who joined Rangers in January.
McInnes reshapes squad for title challenge
Rangers have already added Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland to their ranks as McInnes looks to reshape the Ibrox squad for a title challenge this season. The club remains active in the transfer market as they prepare for the new campaign.
