The former home of broadcasting legend Sir Terry Wogan has been put on the market for £3.75 million, following the death of his wife, Lady Helen, last year. The six-bedroom Arts & Crafts-style mansion, known as Hitcham Close, is located in the Buckinghamshire village of Taplow.
Sir Terry and his wife bought the property in 1975 and raised their two sons and a daughter there. The house boasts more than 6,500 square feet of living space over three floors, including a grand entrance hall, a kitchen/breakfast room, a study, a drawing room, a dining room, and a conservatory. The first floor has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a balcony, while the top floor contains a two-bedroom guest apartment and loft space.
The gardens, tended by Lady Helen, feature a tennis court, a heated swimming pool, a croquet lawn, and an orchard. The property also includes a large garage and is set within 2.84 acres of grounds.
Sir Terry's youngest son, Mark, expressed the family's regret at selling the home, citing inheritance tax as the reason. He said: "It was a fantastic family home for us. Nothing would give us greater pleasure as a family than to be able to hold on to it, but we can’t, because the tax on it is large."
Hugh Maconochie, director in the country house department at Savills, described Hitcham Close as "a wonderful family home that offers plentiful accommodation with excellent access to London." The property is being marketed jointly by Savills and Bovingdons.
