October's planning applications in North Tyneside include proposals for dozens of new homes around Tynemouth Metro Station and a new Chinese restaurant in North Shields. The applications were reported by the Local Democracy Reporter Austen Shakespeare.
New homes near Tynemouth Station
A proposal has been submitted for the construction of 46 one-, two-, and three-bedroom properties, including homes and flats, on land to the north and south of Tynemouth Metro Station.
Conversions and change of use
Several other applications involve conversions into homes. The former Duke of York pub at 79 High Street West, Wallsend, NE28 8JD, would be converted into three cluster flats, three studio flats and four one-bed flats.
A taxi rank and office space at 6 Nile Street, North Shields, NE29 0BE, would become a Chinese cafe/restaurant with staff accommodation upstairs. A detached garage at Flat A, Newsteads Farmhouse, Turnberry, NE25 9NG, would be converted into a self-contained studio holiday let.
A former council care facility at 21 Staithes Avenue, Longbenton, NE12 8LN, would become two dwellings. A retrospective application seeks change of use from a guest house to an eight-bedroom house in multiple occupation at 8 South Parade, Whitley Bay, NE26 2RG.
Another change of use application covers a corner shop at 145 Grey Street, North Shields, NE30 2EQ, with alterations to the shop front and parking.
