New research from Rightmove, the UK's largest property platform, has revealed that North Lanarkshire in Scotland is the area where homebuyers get the most for their money. For the current average UK asking price of £378,000, buyers can purchase a five-bedroom detached house in North Lanarkshire, where the average asking price for such a property is £376,052—just below the national average.
Regional Disparities in Property Value
According to Rightmove, there are stark regional differences in what £378,000 can buy. In North Lanarkshire, this budget stretches to a four or five-bedroom home, significantly more than in parts of England. North Lanarkshire borders Glasgow's northeast and includes towns like Cumbernauld (population 50,530), Coatbridge, Airdrie, and Motherwell. The area boasts attractions such as M&D's amusement park, Strathclyde Country Park, and The Time Capsule water park.
County Durham in North East England ranks second, followed by Nottingham and Charnwood in the East Midlands, and East Riding of Yorkshire in fifth place. In contrast, London and parts of South East England offer far less space for the same budget. In Tower Hamlets, a studio flat averages £357,556, while in Hackney, a studio averages £341,021.
Market Insights from Rightmove
Colleen Babcock, Rightmove property expert, commented: "Buyers are weighing up value more carefully in the current market, and this analysis shows just how much variation there can be in what the same budget buys in different parts of Britain. For some movers, the price of an average home could mean a flat in a more expensive city market, while in other areas it could stretch to a much larger family home."
Babcock added: "With the number of homes for sale at historically high levels for this time of year, homes that feel well-priced for their size, location and condition are more likely to stand out. Affordability remains a key driver of buyer behaviour, and many movers are taking the time to compare what they can get for their budget before making a decision."
