If you have ever opened your dishwasher after a cycle only to find your dishes still dirty, you are not alone. However, the issue may come down to a few common mistakes many people do not realise they are making. According to Bosch, a leading global technology and home appliance brand, the problem can often be resolved with simple adjustments. Before searching for a new machine or calling an engineer, it is worth checking these potential fixes.
Tablet Tray Blocked
One reason might be that the tablet tray is blocked. Make sure the dispenser and tablet tray are clean, then place the tablet flat instead of upright. If something blocks the tray, like a saucepan handle, the tablet might not dissolve properly.
Spray Arms Not Working
If there is no blockage, then the spray arms may not be working correctly. Bosch explains: "The dishwasher relies on the spray arms for adequate water distribution. Ensure that the spray arms rotate freely and that there are no signs of cracks or damage. Check if the nozzles are blocked - if food deposits have blocked the nozzles, you will need to detach the spray arms and thoroughly clean out the holes and bearings on the spray arms so that water flow is not obstructed."
Water Pressure and Temperature
The third option is checking the water pressure and temperature. Bosch experts note: "If your appliance is not sufficiently filling with water or the water pressure is too low, the dishwasher tablet will fail to dissolve fully, or at all. Ensure that the connection is not kinked, crushed or twisted." If you notice the dishwasher is not filling with water, you should book an engineer visit. The same applies if the appliance is not heating water properly: "Use a higher temperature setting to see if the tablet dissolves."
Additional Tips
Other common mistakes include overloading the dishwasher, which can block water flow, and using the wrong detergent or rinse aid. Always check the manufacturer's recommendations for optimal results.
