Muddy Pink Paint Could Slash Thousands Off Home Value

Choosing the wrong paint colour can not only ruin the look of your home, but according to experts, it could also put potential buyers off and knock thousands off your property's value. Paint specialists warn that certain shades, especially muddy pinks, can make rooms feel smaller, darker, and dated, leading to reduced offers.

Muddy Pinks Drain the Life Out of a Room

Jessie Brooks of Davincified explained that muddy blush tones or greyish, muted pinks may look sophisticated initially but quickly become flat and lifeless on walls. "These muddy pinks lack warmth. They don't reflect light well, so rooms feel smaller and darker. Over time, they just look dingy," Jessie said. Bubblegum pinks are also problematic, as they age quickly and have a limited lifespan like all fashionable shades.

40% of Buyers Would Lower Their Offer

Estate agents consistently confirm that particular wall colours put off potential buyers. One survey revealed that four in 10 people said they would lower their offer if they were put off by the interior colour scheme. Pink is one of these unpopular hues, and buyers tend to enter a pink room and instantly begin estimating redecoration expenses, resulting in reduced offers.

Better Alternatives to Pink

If you like the colour pink but want something more enduring, Jessie suggests considering warmer terracotta tones or gentle peachy shades that have greater depth and richness. "Terracotta has been used in homes for centuries because it's warm, earthy, and works with almost any style. Rather than competing with your furniture or artwork, it complements them," she explained. For those seeking something lighter, soft creams with warm undertones deliver that delicate, inviting atmosphere without the drawbacks associated with pink. They bounce light around, make spaces feel more spacious, and suit any decorating style.
