M&S Cheapest vs Most Expensive Ribeye Steak Test Baffles Shopper

A food fan decided to pit Marks and Spencer's cheapest and most expensive ribeye steaks against each other, and the outcome left her "not that impressed."

The Taste Test Setup

High street legend M&S remains a beloved fixture on Britain's shopping scene. Despite launching over a century ago, it continues to win over today's shoppers with its premium product line-up covering fashion, accessories, homeware, groceries and more. The supermarket's Food Halls consistently earn rave reviews from shoppers, with both its standard, everyday offerings and newest releases frequently sparking buzz on social media.

Food content creator Becca Stock - who goes by Becca Eats Everything on TikTok - grabbed M&S's 30 Day Matured Ribeye Steak, priced at £8.50, to pit it against the more upmarket M&S Collection Wagyu Ribeye Steak, which retails at £19.

Cheaper Steak Impresses

Speaking to camera, Becca began: "Let's try M&S's cheapest and most expensive ribeye steak. I'm gonna start with the £8.50 standard M&S ribeye. This has got a huge chunk of fat running through the middle. I did put a little bit of oil on and a little bit of salt and pepper - that's how I cook my steaks. Usually how most steaks are cooked in restaurants as well."

Becca then sampled the steak and said: "Oh, my goodness, that is a f***ing good steak. It's like beef butter. Best rib eye I've tried from a supermarket. The bar is set. I mean, surely like, this is a 10 out of 10 steak. Why would I pay more than double the price for another one? Yeah, that's a 10 out of 10."

Expensive Steak Disappoints

Becca then turned her attention to the pricier option - the Collection British Wagyu Ribeye Steak. The content creator, who racked up more than 600,000 followers on TikTok, said: "Let's move on to the £19 one," and sliced into the steak. She continued: "This one does fall apart much more easily."

However, after sampling a mouthful, she said: "Do you know what? I'm not actually that impressed. This is why we do this. The texture is lovely, it's, like, so soft. It's actually a little bit tasteless. It doesn't have as much of a butteriness to it."

Rating the more expensive ribeye, Becca concluded: "I would give that a six and a half out of 10." So, according to Becca, the cheaper steak proved to be the superior choice and comfortably won in her taste test.

M&S History

Long before it became the retail giant so widely known and cherished today, Marks and Spencer began life as a modest market stall, first set up in Leeds back in 1884. The chain has forged its reputation on quality merchandise spanning multiple departments. Customers can pick up the latest fashion trends and browse an extensive range of homeware, lingerie, beauty items and more. Just as popular are its much-loved Food Halls, stocking both branded food and drink alongside M&S's own-label ranges.
