Tenant's Shocking Discovery: Mould and Rot Plague Burwood Rental Property
Mould horror in Burwood rental sparks outrage

A Burwood tenant has revealed the appalling conditions of her rental property, exposing rampant mould and structural decay that went ignored by the landlord for months.

Raine Horne, 29, moved into the Burwood home in April, only to discover black mould spreading across walls, rotting floorboards, and a leaking roof. "It's a health hazard," she told reporters. "I’ve had constant respiratory issues since moving in."

Landlord Ignored Repeated Complaints

Horne claims she alerted the property manager multiple times, but repairs were delayed or ignored entirely. "They just painted over the mould at one point," she said. "It came back worse within weeks."

Tenant Rights Advocates Demand Action

Local housing advocates have condemned the landlord’s inaction, calling it a breach of Victoria’s rental standards. "Tenants shouldn’t have to live in squalor," said one spokesperson. "This is a clear case of neglect."

Horne has since filed a complaint with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), seeking compensation and urgent repairs.
